Our first run was everything we hoped it would be and more. Fourteen people showed up at Deland Park on a warm Saturday morning, most of them strangers. There were nerves, awkward introductions, and a lot of "so... how fast do you usually go?" conversations. We told everyone the same thing: go at your own pace. We meant it.
The three-mile route wound through downtown Sheboygan and along the lakefront. Some people ran the whole thing. Others walked parts of it. A couple of people stopped to take photos of the lake. Nobody got left behind, and nobody felt like they needed to keep up with anyone else.
Afterward, we gathered at a local coffee shop where the owner had set out free pastries and cold brew for the group. That was the moment it clicked. People were laughing, swapping numbers, making plans to come back next month. It stopped being "a run" and started being "a thing."
We walked away that morning knowing this was going to be something special. Sheboygan needed a space like this, a place where showing up is the only requirement and the finish line is just the beginning of the hangout.
