September's run took us out of the city and onto the trails near Sheboygan Falls. We wanted to mix things up, trade the pavement for dirt paths and see what the crew thought about a little adventure. Turns out, they loved it.
Twenty-two runners showed up this time, nearly double our first run. A few were returning from August, but most were brand new. Word had gotten around. Someone brought their dog. Someone else brought homemade energy bars. That is the kind of club this is.
The trail was beautiful. Early fall colors were just starting to show, and the route followed a creek for about a mile before looping back through a wooded section. The footing was uneven in places, which slowed everyone down a bit, but nobody seemed to mind. There was more conversation on this run than the last one. People were getting comfortable.
We ended up at a pizza place in the Falls, where the owner had reserved a back patio for us. Fifteen pizzas disappeared in about twenty minutes. We sat around for over an hour afterward, talking about everything except running. That is the part we are most proud of. The runs bring people together, but the conversations afterward are what keep them coming back.
